Traffic Police to Tighten Traffic Rules on Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway from December

PREAH SIHANOUK: From 1 December 2022, traffic police on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway will start enforcing stricter measures on speeding and will impose fines on drivers who violate traffic laws.

On Friday afternoon, 25 November 2022, the Deputy Director of the Traffic Police and Public Order Department, Brigadier General Van Havari, confirmed that authorities will begin more closely inspecting adherence to speed limits on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway, imposing strict fines on those who violate traffic laws in order to maintain safety on the expressway.

The Deputy Director of the Traffic Police said fines for speeding on the expressway will protect lives and prevent more accidents. He called on the people who use the expressway to drive safely in accordance with the law.

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on 9 November 2022, after it opened for trial in early November.

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is Cambodia’s first expressway and connects Phnom Penh to the city and largest seaport of Sihanoukville over 187.05 km of road.
